Poem on the Tom Robinson trial
The court-house of Maycomb was a battlefield
Of discrimination and justice,
Majority against the minority to see who would yield.

Raping a white was a serious crime
Of which poor Tom Robinson did not commit,
But he was still forced to serve his time.
In the end the battle was over
Negroes can never have their rights,
So the mockingbird went to meet its maker.
Only the white jury had the power to make the choice
No matter what the evidence was...

Tom Robinson was guilty.
